Vegetable Fields

We grow all vegetables in an ecological way. That is, we use no pesticides and no artificial fertilizers. To combat insects harmful to the plants, we use natural enemies such as a ladybug against lice and a coal tit against caterpillars. For fertilization we use compost and cow manure. We control the weeds with the hoe.

We have a 160m2 foil greenhouse where we sow all plants ourselves from organic seeds. In spring we sell vegetable garden plants such as strawberries, tomatoes, courgettes, cucumbers, hot peppers and point bell peppers. After the sale, we plant the foil greenhouse full of tomatoes, point bell peppers, hot peppers and cucumbers.

Creating diversity is an important feature of ecological gardening. We do this by growing many types of vegetables. In 2021 we have grown more than 55 different vegetables. We also have diversity in our shrubs and herbs. As a result, we also have a great diversity of insects on and around our market garden.

The application of crop rotation is also important. We have a 6 year crop rotation cycle, as promoted by VELT.

To make it possible for everyone to admire the vegetables, we have built wide grass paths between our 6 vegetable fields. All our ecological seasonal vegetables are for sale on Wilma's terras and in our sales cart at our frontdoor at Monsigneur Smetsstraat 14 in Dommelen.
